ABOUT US
Founded in 1997 by a diverse group of journalists, businesspeople, teachers, Eurocrats, and academics, the Brussels Writers Workshop has been bringing writers together for nearly three decades. What started as a shared passion for writing has evolved into a vibrant community, with many of our members achieving literary success.
What sets us apart is the diversity of backgrounds, histories, and perspectives that our members bring to the table. These different experiences and points of view lead to lively discussions, and the support and constructive criticism we offer each other remain at the heart of the Workshop.
All styles and genres are represented at the Brussels Writers Workshop, including poetry, fiction, short stories, memoir, young adult fiction, science fiction, literary essays and screenwriting. We embrace different voices, forms, and ways of telling a story.
Come rain or shine, the Workshop has met every other week for almost three decades. Along the way, it has weathered 9/11, McCarthy’s Road, Bob Dylan’s Nobel Prize and, more recently, the challenges of the Covid pandemic. We have gathered around tables on rainy Brussels evenings, met in the sunshine, and even held spirited discussions online and in the woods when the pandemic made our usual meetings impossible.
As we approach our 30th anniversary, the Workshop continues to evolve. Our website showcases the work and achievements of our members, as well as the writers, books and conversations that inspire us.
